Foster Families are needed throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. To Foster is to share heart and home with a child/youth. Foster Families provide a nurturing, supportive home environment for children. Foster Care is meant to be a temporary arrangement to allow birth families to work on a range of challenges that resulted in their child being placed in foster care. This session will address the concept of discipline focused on developmental need not chronological age and how behaviours are the child’s way of expressing a need or a want. As, well, they will discuss the parental role in the discipline process: using active listening, responding versus reacting, avoiding power struggles and using natural and logical consequences.
