The Peer Mentoring Program is available to new fosters homes or to those who have been fostering for less than two years. You will be matched to a foster parent who has been fostering for more than 5 years who can provide support and understanding from the perspective that they have “been there” and they understand the foster parent role. This program can help reduce the feelings of isolation in this new role and you will have someone to listen to you.
At times we will be looking for new mentors for this program. Please see the peer mentor role description and the peer mentoring pamphlet. This is a volunteer position and mentors will not be paid for their time, however a small honorarium will be provided. Costs will be covered for foster parents to participate in peer mentor training.
If you are interested in having a mentor or want to become a mentor , please contact Lori at lori@fosterfamiliesnl.ca or by phone 754-0213 or 1-877-754-0218 (toll free).
